Re: Robot vacuum cleaners
I did a project on these a year or so ago and while the project was nothing to do with which brand is best, I read a LOT of stuff around that while trying to understand it all. I concur with Eufy. Roomba has the prime mover advantage but didn't keep up with the tech while pricing as though it did. If you want a cutting edge high end version, you need something like Roborock or Xiaomi ( but a lot of these brands have no physical presence in the UK and getting customer support/ spare parts can be a battle). If you just want a decent normal one, Eufy is the best option, used to be the cheap alt to Roomba but has come on a lot in terms of tech and quality while still being cheaper, and is also really well established in the UK so no issues with parts/ after sales. There's a very wide range of Eufys from very basic to quite fancy, but they're all solid good quality machines.

Oh Goat, your job comes up trumps once again! Thank you for your detailed analysis. I'd never even heard of Eufy until this thread

Work Goat is a super hero like Cat Woman but knows her way around varied and obscure products like Cat Woman knows her way around the alleys of Gotham City.

I *knew* there would be a thread on robovacs on here somewhere. My first impressions with a quick glance on the Curry's website is that you could spend an awful lot of money on a robovac if you got carried away. I was looking at a Shark one but I will now investigate Eufy.

Re: Robot vacuum cleaners
It never occurred to me how life changing these would be for somebody like me (eczema and allergy to the dander of our pets) .
I had a £10 wowcher voucher to spend and nothing much in mind, so got a cheap robot vacuum cleaner just to see if it was useful. We upgraded a week or so ago to one with a proper charging station, ability to schedule, etc. and, after lifting the kitchen island slightly to avoid it getting stuck, it is my new best friend.
It's a Lefant, so not a brand already mentioned, but it does a daily early morning sweep of the main room and I set it going elsewhere as needed. And now I'm no longer trying to get other people in the house to understand how much better I feel with a daily vacuum. And I don't care if my mum thinks it's laziness, it's about multi-tasking, innit?

I have been toying with the idea of one of these for ages and still don't know about it. Are they worth it for small places?

I bought my mum a Vactidy (cheap on Amazon a while ago). She lives alone in a one bed flat and uses very day too and over it! At 85 pushing even a cordless around is a bit of an effort, especially as she needs use a walking stick. My sister does a trad vac once a week.
I also have same version that I use solely for my home office - OH vacs the rest of the house with his Dyson!

Re: Robot vacuum cleaners
We bought a Eufy for our studio the last Amazon prime day and it's been great. We don't have a cleaner so it stops anyone feeling guilted into vacuuming when it's not on anyone's job description. It's much easier to go through the drawer to look for any gold that it picked up off the floor too.

I also love mine, mainly for its diligence in scooting underneath heavy cabinets I would not be regularly moving and cleaning under. All cat hair flies underneath things like that and settles where you'd rarely reach it otherwise. I think it's likely to be worth it with any size place really (not least because you don't have to spend a lot) and smaller might mean more tricky bits that are harder to reach manually? I bet there are deals today too.

Yes TC, even for small places. Just one less thing to do around the house. You’ll still need to do a bit- the nooks and crannies it can’t get into, skirting boards etc. But still worth it

I can't recommend my brand highly enough. They've replaced both the charging station and the remote control, both of which have gone iffy after 2 years. I've been very impressed. It is a brilliant little dude.

I bought a eufy in the end and I love it. Although I sent the first one back as I thought it wasn't charging properly. Turns out it was just the instructions were a bit confusing for an idiot and there was nothing wrong with it at all.

I also got one and they are properly amazing. Little Alan buzzes about the place bashing into things and basically doing a better job of vacuuming than I ever could or did, so thanks all for pushing me toward taking the leap.
I guess this wears off over time, but do people just sit there, kind of watching it in action?

They are funny little things.
Eufy missed a trick not sticking eyes and ears on them.

You're making me hysterical. You could always add on some googly eyes yourself, I read an article recently about some town in America which keeps asking residents to stop sticking googly eyes on sculptures there.

Re: Robot vacuum cleaners
Not so much, as it's scheduled to run downstairs before I get up! If I set it going somewhere else then I don't feel the need to supervise, as the point of it is that we can be doing something else.
However, there was much hilarity last week when Sproglette and I were setting 'Botty*' going via the app whilst in Bath and denying all knowledge to P, who was sat at home.
*Botty Mk2 is a she because the original male Botty wasn't all that great, whereas this one cracks on with it and does a much better job.
